Quick answer: For relationships, start with Alice, Blorph, Celeste, Edwin, Ellie, Josh, Molly, Sam or Tanner; their homes and base areas are listed below. For progression, visit Farmer Hans for farming, Molly for the Rusty Pickaxe and Workshop, Adrian for area unlocks, and Carlos for the Catacombs Large Hammer. Follow the linked guide for the task or gift you need.
Character roster: who is where
Use this as a quick directory when a task names a resident without placing a marker. The nine resident locations were rechecked against their current character records on October 19, 2026. They are sensible first stops, not fixed schedules: weather, events, and an active task can move a character.
| Character | Where the roster places them | What is safe to use this for |
|---|---|---|
| Tanner | Tanner's Cabin at the entrance to the Old Woods | A main resident; the Lost Gameboy task can keep him in the Town Outskirts until it is finished. |
| Sam | Apartment 1 on the first floor of Greystone Estates | A main resident; begin at the apartment rather than searching every town district. |
| Ellie | A boarded-up house to the right of the bus stop in Town North West | A main resident; the house is the useful fallback when her usual route changes. |
| Edwin | The lit-porch unit to the left of the bus stop in Town North West | A main resident; check the named home before assuming a task has failed. |
| Josh | The right-hand unit of the Town West duplex shared with Alice | A main resident; use the duplex, not Ellie's house, as the first search point. |
| Molly | Her Workshop on the path to the farm in the Town Outskirts | Starts Helping Molly, the early Rusty Pickaxe and Workshop progression route. |
| Alice | The left-hand unit of the Town West duplex shared with Josh | A main resident; her listed home is the best first stop. |
| Blorph | The sewers in Town North East, behind the police station | A main resident; this is an area clue, not a town-home location. |
| Celeste | The Library in Town North West | A main resident; start at the Library before checking older schedule guides. |
Once you find a relationship character, use the gift and marriage table to choose an item before opening the Gift menu.
NPCs that matter to progression
Some named characters are especially useful because they connect a player problem to a clear system or task.
| NPC | Why players look for them | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| Farmer Hans | His early farming task, The Farmer's Path, asks for one Wheat. The task index records a Grinder and access to Chef Elroy's recipe shop as its rewards. | Bring Wheat to the Farmhouse before treating crafting as a separate detour. |
| Molly | Helping Molly gives the Rusty Pickaxe, asks for Copper Ore, then opens the Workshop and its Furnace route. | Follow the Rusty Pickaxe guide for the task order and a safe response to a missing tool. |
| Professor Dayton | The Stone Tower task directs the player toward someone knowledgeable, and the current Stone Tower route uses Dayton as the relevant contact. | Read the Stone Tower guide before looking for a random tower key. |
| Adrian | Starts Tentacle Cleanup in Town South; its completion rewards Basic Axe. | Follow the Basic Axe task route through the Mall worker, Administrator, and return hand-in. |
| Akira | Starts Time to Investigate in the Town South apartment, second floor. | Use the seven-Mystery checklist when the counter stalls at 6/7. |
| Carlos | Gives the Large Hammer after Feed the Mold on Catacombs 2F. | Follow the hammer and floor route for Living Bones, the encounter and the nearby passage. |
| Travelling Merchant | The roster treats this NPC as a visitor rather than a permanent shopkeeper. | Look for the current visit; do not search for a fixed storefront. |
Choose a relationship route
All nine relationship characters above have a ten-heart proposal step in the current relationship records. Start with one resident whose route fits your usual trips, then use the romance, gifts and marriage guide for selected loved and liked gifts, weekly limits and the Ring of Binding recipe.
Keep their home and current task together when searching. Tanner's Lost Gameboy and Sam's Childhood Fear can override an ordinary location; a resident being away from home does not mean their relationship route is locked.
If a character is missing
- Read the active task first; it can override a normal route or keep someone at a task location.
- Check the listed home, workplace, or area before crossing the whole map.
- Try a different part of the day, then check whether rain, snow, or a story event has changed access.
- Compare the exact character name in your journal with the roster. Similar place names and older videos can send you to the wrong district.
Do not rely on a minute-by-minute schedule copied from an old build. When a location differs in your save, record the game version, weather, time, active task, and the character's actual position. That is enough context to distinguish a normal task override from an outdated roster entry.
