Welcome to Elderfield Stone Tower Quest Guide
Follow the Welcome to Elderfield Stone Tower task, understand its farm and story requirements, and separate old Demo restrictions from the full 1.0 route.

Quick answer: The Stone Tower is a farm-side story hub, not a door opened by a random key. Examine it, follow Professor Dayton's task prompts, and advance the farm, dungeons, and Art Gallery when the journal directs you.
Start the Stone Tower task
Examine the large tower door near the farm. If the task is active, its journal wording is the safest guide to your next action. A commonly documented early sequence is:
- ask around town for someone who knows about the tower;
- speak with Professor Dayton when the task points to him;
- examine the markings on the sealed entrance;
- continue the farm progress requested by the carved counter;
- return to Dayton when new writing or a new objective appears.
The tower uses progression checks. Repeatedly inspecting the same door will not replace the crop, animal, task, or story progress named in your journal.
Read the carved counter as a progress check
The carved writing near the entrance is more useful than repeatedly testing the door. Treat each new line as a requirement to satisfy elsewhere, then return to the tower after making real progress. The supplied task notes associate this stage with developing the farm: growing crops, raising animals, and completing the work named by the active objective. The journal should remain the deciding source if its wording differs from an older walkthrough.
Use a simple loop when the counter appears unchanged:
- read the full task entry and note the exact verb it uses;
- complete one meaningful batch of the requested farm or story activity;
- sleep or advance the day if the game has not refreshed the objective;
- examine the writing again, then speak to Dayton if the task names him;
- keep unique quest objects until the entire chain is complete.
This prevents two common mistakes: assuming the counter is a keypad, or grinding an unrelated activity because an early video happened to show it before the tower updated.
Why the seal does not open
Check these conditions in order:
- The tower has been examined and appears as an active task.
- You spoke to the required town contact after receiving the prompt.
- You inspected the markings or counter instead of only interacting with the main door.
- Your farm has advanced after the counter became active.
- You returned after completing new dungeon or gallery progress.
Do not sell or discard unique skulls, gallery items, or large keys while working through the late-game chain.
The strongest sign that the save is not ready is an objective that still names another person, place, or progression target. Finish that instruction first. If the objective has vanished entirely, check the completed-task section and the tower surroundings before treating it as a technical problem. A door animation that does not play is different from a quest that has not yet reached the opening step.
Demo advice can be outdated
Older answers correctly said that the Stone Tower could not be completed in the public Demo because required areas—including the library—were outside that build. That limit does not describe the full game released September 10, 2026. When a guide says “you cannot finish the tower,” check whether it is talking about the Demo.
The safest way to identify Demo-only advice is to look at the upload or post date and the app being shown. The Alpha Demo has its own Steam listing, while the purchased game is a separate application. Advice that ends at the Mall, calls unavailable areas “future content,” or uses an unfinished objective may still describe the old slice accurately without being useful for the release build.
How the Tower fits the final route
The developer's pre-launch explanation connects three long-term strands: dungeon bosses provide skulls for the Art Gallery, gallery completion supplies a required key, and the Stone Tower advances the story toward the final sealed passage. Exact thresholds should be read from the current journal because release updates can adjust individual steps.
That structure makes the tower a convergence point rather than a self-contained puzzle. If Dayton has nothing new to say, the useful question is not “Where is the tower key?” but “Which connected progression strand is unfinished?” Review dungeon bosses and their skull rewards, Art Gallery turn-ins, and any current farm objective. A large key acquired from another system should not be consumed on an ordinary basic lock.
Troubleshooting checklist
Before reporting the quest as stuck, record the current game build and compare the visible state with this checklist:
| What you see | Best next check |
|---|---|
| No task after examining the door | Re-examine the entrance and nearby markings, then check the journal |
| Task says to ask around | Speak with the named or relevant town residents before returning |
| Counter still names farm progress | Complete the listed farming or animal milestone, not unrelated dungeon runs |
| Dayton repeats old dialogue | Finish the currently named objective and advance the day |
| Guide says the route is impossible | Confirm whether the guide covers the Alpha Demo |
| Final passage remains sealed | Audit dungeon skulls, Art Gallery progress, and unique keys |
If all current-build objectives are complete and the interaction still fails, keep a screenshot of the journal and tower state. That evidence is much more useful in a bug report than saying only that the door will not open.
If you are blocked by an ordinary lock rather than the tower seal, use the Skeleton and Gate Keys guide.
